Test data for 15 cooker hoods!

The Italian brand, Zanussi, has been part of the Electrolux Group since 1984, and perhaps the name retains its association with Italy’s image for designer quality and tradition. In reality, Zanussi now constitutes the Electrolux’s entry-level brand for cooker hoods and other white goods (alongside AEG, Arthur Martin, Electrolux - and Faure in France and Voss in Denmark). Therefore, you may get a good deal price-wise, but you should not be too optimistic with regard to the overall performance.

News from Zanussi

Among the cooker hoods tested, for which the results and our assessment can be found here on our cooker hood comparator, the ZHS92551XA island hood is the brand’s top performer, achieving the best NeutraTEST Score. It makes sense as it is also the most expensive Zanussi model – however, compared to the general price level for all island cooker hoods the price is very competitive.

If you need a wall mounted extractor hood, ZHC60136X is offered at an unbeatable price, but do try to find £50 more to move up to ZHC6234X or ZHC9234X (90 cm) as you will get much more value for your money. Of course, the ZHC66540XA, ZHC62642XA or ZHC66540XA push the performance levels a bit further, but the prices also almost double.

As one of the grand old brands, having been around for more than half a century, Zanussi obviously also has the traditional, classic extractor hoods in its product range, such as the ZHT630 and ZHT610 in white, black or stainless steel, or the integrated cupboard models ZHI60111G and ZHI611G (strangely with almost identical NeutraTEST Scores). All of the integrated models that we have just mentioned have in common the fact that, as for other manufacturers, product development seems to be on hold. The canopy model, ZHG51260GA, is more capable, so if you want an integrated Zanussi hood, this is the model to go for. In addition, you can build it into your kitchen and hide it completely, which is a solution that we like.

The NeutraTEST Score explained

Based on our analysis of official EU data, compulsory as of 1 January 2015, we evaluate with one single character, called the NeutraTEST Score, the overall performance of each hood.

The scale ranges from 0 to 10, with 10 being the best.

We weight the extractor capacity of the hood measured in m3/h and the sound level measured in dB SPL (A), both at minimum, maximum and boost, by 60%. The remaining 40% is equally distributed between energy consumption and fat filter efficiency.

In addition, we continuously test hoods in our own laboratory.
